I’m a huge VfB fan, Sami. My question is: would you ever come back to VfB? Greetings from Matze. :)
I feel gratitude toward VfB and you never know what will happen in the future. At the moment I am very happy in Madrid.
Hey Sami, with which cleats are you most comfortable?
I play in Nike’s CTR360. They are ideal for me and give a great touch on the ball.
How do you protect yourself in weather like this on the pitch and which cleats are your favourites?
It’s important to warm up properly. Proper undergarments are important in the winter too, to keep the body and muscles warm. I play in the CTR360. Those are my favourite shoes.
What should I do if the ball is wet and therefore heavier than usual? Do you often change your cleats?
It’s unusual for the weather conditions to alter much during a game - especially here in Spain. If it does start to rain heavily during the first half I switch from hard to soft-ground studs.
Why did you leave VfB and why did you go to Real, particularly?
I always felt good at VfB and have a great deal to thank the club for. As a professional there is no greater thing than to play with Real. I am very happy to have taken this step and to have established myself in Madrid.
Hi Sami, you are the best. My absolute favourite player! How is it going in Madrid. What are Cristiano, Sergio Ramos (etc…) like? Greetings Benni.
Sergio and Cristiano are real professionals and really nice colleagues. We always have a good atmosphere and lots of fun at practice. And we understand each other very well on the pitch as well.
What do you think of your team-colleague Mesut Ozil?
Mesut is an extraordinary footballer and a good friend. Because we went to Madrid at the same time a deep bond has formed between us.
As a successful footballer do you have lots of free time?
During the season you don’t have much free time because between practices you need time for recovery. But there is always time to do private things, of course.
Hello Sami. I wanted to ask: how do you keep yourself fit?
Through intensive training. Conditioning is very important for a midfield player.
If you were European champion or World champion would you come to a party/celebration at Oeffingen?
If we win a title with the National team then there would be many engagements and events with the team and with our sponsors. I would find it nice to visit my home team, that I can promise you.
Hey Sami, I’d like to know how a player experiences el clasico. Is the excitement level very high?
The Clasico is always very emotional for all of those involved. The expectations from the fans for this game are very high - and also from the media. Certainly all my thought prior to the Clasico concern only that one game.
What weather conditions do you prefer when you are playing?
The weather doesn’t affect me. I play happily in any weather. It is best of course when it is cool and dry.
Is Spain going to be the 2012 European Champions?
Germany is going to be European Champion! :)
What do you want from Santa Claus?
There’s only one wish: to be European Champion :)

Hopefully this season. Last year Barca was champions over us with 4 points. It’s very close again. We will bring our best effort and will manage it.
What do you do under pressure?
In professional football a player is always under pressure. Before you step out onto the pitch you have to know what you’ll be doing in the game and keep a cool head.
What’s your favourite colour? What is your favourite food?
My favourite colour is red and I love Arabic food.
Hello Sami. What’s it like to play at one of the world’s best clubs next to Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil?
That is a wonder feeling. The professionalism of my colleagues has lots to do with it. I knew Mesut already from the National Team and to be with Cristiano Ronaldo in a team is very nice.
In which club did you begin to play football and where was your talent discovered?
I began in TV Oeffingen and was discovered in a tournament by VfB. Then I switched over to their youth team.
How did you get to this level. I use you as an example for myself - and also Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil. How did you fulfil your dream?
To get to a professional level it’s important to be professional and to train hard. As for a dream…A World cup win in Brazil would be a dream. That’s what we’re working toward.
Cold feet! Hello Sami, what do you do about cold feet during a game. I got your football shoes over the summer through the DFB. They fit perfectly. Do you still have a spare pair?
I am so happy that we have the same shoe-size :-) Against cold feet, the best thing to do is to keep moving. But in the heat of the moment you shouldn’t have time to feel cold :-)
What sport do you like to play, aside from football, of course?
I play Tennis now and then and really like to watch Basketball. Here in Madrid I have the opportunity [to watch basketball].
Hey Sami :) Have you got, or did you have a house pet. What’s its name? Where and how will you spend Christmas. How’s it going with the Spanish language? Fond greetings. Forza VfB!
I’ve never had a house pet. I’ll spend Christmas with my family and friends. Where precisely I’ll be still has to be determined ;-) I think that I can speak quite good Spanish. Most people understand me and I can talk with people quite easily on the street.
First of all, please excuse my German. My question: How will you stay healthy this season when you have to play and train in bad weather. Lots of luck at Real Madrid.
No problem. Your German is fine :-) Aside from training properly it’s important to eat properly and wear the proper clothing to practice and it’s the same when you are playing a game.
Hey Sami, do you play PlayStation. If yes, do you have an online ID and would you tell it to me? And what was your first game in the National jersey like? :)
I play PlayStation, but not online. Therefore I haven’t an online ID.
How do I cut across to shoot or make a cross?
That’s difficult to explain. The best way to do it is to keep trying and practicing. Practice makes perfect.
What’s happening with Mesut Ozil in Madrid. The press is speculating that his days at Madrid are numbered. Is it true that offers are coming in from Juventus and Liverpool?
Mesut is a fabulous footballer and with his qualities he can and will establish himself in any team.
Hey Sami, you probably have lots of exchanged jerseys. Which is your favourite and why?
I happily exchange jerseys with players who are my good friends. For that reason the jersey belonging to Jerome Boateng is certainly my favourite jersey.
